About the store
Hi, I’m Whitney, the creator behind Dr. Data Teaches! I’m a former college math professor, a practicing data scientist, and a lifelong math person who loves making complex ideas feel clear, organized, and approachable. I have a PhD in Statistics, degrees in Mathematics and Math Education, and years of experience teaching math at the college level. Today, I work as a data scientist, where I use statistics, modeling, and data analysis in real-world problem solving every day. Dr. Data Teaches combines my classroom teaching background with my professional data science experience to create math resources that are accurate, student-friendly, and easy for busy teachers to use. My goal is to help students build confidence with math vocabulary, statistics concepts, data displays, and problem-solving skills — without overwhelming them or adding extra prep for teachers.

Experience

Teaching style

My teaching style is hands-on, practical, and connection-focused. I believe students understand math more deeply when they have opportunities to practice, explore examples, and see how concepts connect to the real world. I like breaking complex ideas into clear steps, using visual supports, and giving students repeated chances to apply what they are learning. For statistics and probability especially, I believe real-world examples help students move beyond memorizing formulas and toward actually understanding what the numbers mean. At Dr. Data Teaches, my resources are designed to be structured, student-friendly, and easy to use. My goal is to help students build confidence through clear explanations, meaningful practice, and math tasks that feel approachable instead of overwhelming.

My own education history

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, a Master’s degree in Math Education, and a PhD in Statistics. My education has given me a strong foundation in both the content side of math and the teaching side of math. I studied advanced mathematics and statistics, but I also studied how students learn math — which shapes the way I create resources today. Before becoming a data scientist, I taught mathematics at the college level. That teaching experience helped me learn how to break down complex ideas into clear steps, meaningful examples, and approachable practice. At Dr. Data Teaches, I use both my education and real-world data science experience to create resources that are mathematically accurate, classroom-friendly, and designed to help students build true understanding.
