Experience

I started researching spelling and morphology when I found out that I was going to have to teach this content. I knew I was a bad speller. I realized that many other teachers and students were also having difficulties. I attended workshops and conferences to determine what other ways could help students be successful. I because a certified academic language therapist and a licensed Dyslexia Therapist for the State of Texas. I have taken this knowledge and created resources that I used with my students as well as shared with other teachers.

Teaching style

I like to use discovery-based teaching. Discovery-based teaching is a student-centered approach where students actively acquire and explore knowledge through critical thinking and problem solving. You will see through my lessons that students are given the phonics rules and spelling patterns. Then they in turn must determine how the spelling words relate to the rules and patterns. This will help their spelling and writing skills.

My own education history

After attending workshops and conferences, I decided to return to school to try and achieve a doctorate. I was able to earned a PhD with the emphasis in Reading.
