Hamilton Listening Comprehesion and Analysis of Motifs Activity

Use this worksheet packet to introduce advanced drama students to the musical Hamilton. The first page introduces the characters and the concept of musical motifs. Students fill in the chart as they listen and identify each characters' motif. There is also questions to a interview with Lin-Manuel Miranda, the writer, to introduce the musical. The last pages require students to summarize each song's contribution to the plot. See accompanying lesson plans.

Experience

I have had the pleasure of teaching for four years now at a rural High School in Florida. I currently teach English I Honors and a variety of Drama courses. Teaching style

Whether in my English Language Arts or Drama lessons I strive to foster creativity, critical thinking, and independence in my students. Through cooperative learning and applying the Gradual Release of Responsibility, students are able to explore the subjects of Literature and Theatre independently, with the security of a safety net in the support found in my lessons.

Additional biographical information

In addition to my formal education in English, I have been involved in the Theatre Arts for 22 years. Beginning in my Mother's dance classes, I moved on to acting and eventually directing. I have been active within my community's theater for nearly ten years now and I am constantly striving to gain more knowledge in theatre.
