Hi! I’m the educator behind Drop the Math, where I create math resources that build understanding.
I bring over 20 years of classroom experience and 3 years as an instructional math coach, with a deep commitment to helping students make sense of math in meaningful, conceptual ways. My teaching journey began as a Teach For America corps member in rural Mississippi.
I have taught on three continents, North America, Africa, and Asia, including two years at an all-boys school in the United Arab Emirates. These experiences strengthened my belief that students learn best when instruction is culturally responsive, purposeful, and rooted in understanding.
In addition to classroom teaching, I have served as a math content reviewer for the state of California, reviewing curriculum for alignment to California content standards and the Standards for Mathematical Practice. I have also worked as a GATE coordinator and Social-Emotional Learning coordinator, and received extensive training in Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI), an approach grounded in the belief that students inherently understand math and that instruction should build on their natural problem-solving abilities.
The resources in this store are designed to move beyond memorization and procedures, supporting students in building understanding, reasoning mathematically, and truly making meaning of math.
