Experience

15 years in the corporate world in consulting and corporate strategy at Land's End, Accenture, McDonald's Corporation and United Airlines. Teaching style

I really believe that learning should be fun. I specialize in helping students who do not fit into the traditional classroom environment--those who are in the lower tracks or special alternative programs for students who have been placed in the programs due to truancy or in lieu of expulsion. Teaching a subject that students hate is difficult and you must make it non-threatening and fun. I believe the key to math success is through critical thinking via puzzles, games and brain-teasers which build confidence while teaching problem-solving. I strongly believe that anyone can be taught anything.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I feel privileged to have worked with Dr. Randy Pausch, author of the Last Lecture, and his team on teaching computer programming through the Alice environment.

My own education history

Bachelor of Arts from the University of Iowa with a double major in mathematics and secondary education. MBA from the University of Iowa with an emphasis in Marketing. Currently pursing a degree in fine arts in my spare time.

Additional biographical information

My father, Dr. Gary C. Ramseyer, passed away suddenly in the Spring of 2012. He taught Statistics at Illinois State University and developed a wonderful website celebrating humor in statistics. http://my.ilstu.edu/~gcramsey/Gallery.html. I now maintain this site in my father's honor. He taught me a lot about math and how to have fun with teaching. He always performed for his graduate students as Dr. Sigma. I have adopted this name as my screen name in his honor.
