I use this scavenger hunt and project to teach students about deviance. Students will need the opportunity to move around the school on their own. There is also a multimedia project attached as a culminating activity.
This is a video guide that directs students to answer questions about the film "Shawshank Redemption" using sociological terminology centered around deviance.
This project requires the students to watch the film "Freaky Friday" while filling out a video guide. At the end of the viewing guide there is a multimedia project that incorporates most of the learning goals about roles/role strain, obligations and more. I use this in my 11th and 12th grade sociology class.
This essay prompt invokes students to explore issues involved with race such as racial stereotyping, discrimination, segregation, institutionalized discrimination etc. Students will view the film "The Green Mile" and write a 1000 word essay following the film.
This is a project guide that I use in my upper level Sociology class. It includes an easy 5 step project guideline as well as easy to use graphic organizers. You will need a copy of the movie for class. You may also need parent permission slips depending on your district as this film is rated R.
