About the store
I have had over 30 years experience in education both in the UK and Australia, as a class teacher, school leader, teacher trainer and local authority adviser. The majority of my teaching experience has been at the upper end of KS2 with the 9 - 11 year olds but I have taught throughout the primary school age ranges. Having a mainly arts background and a specialism in drama and literacy, I was asked to join the local authority Maths Advisory Team because of my creative approach to the teaching of mathematics. Following this I spent four years working with the National Numeracy Strategy in Bradford as Director of Numeracy before returning to school and spending the last 9 years teaching years 5 and 6 in a leadership role.

Teaching style

Throughout my career, I have been passionately interested in actively involving the children in their own learning and harnessing their innate creativity. I believe that children need to understand the relevance behind the concepts being taught and to take ownership through practical activities and resource based learning.I describe myself as a creative teacher with a mission to build confidence in the children I teach. If the children do not see themselves as learners, the long term benefits of education are lost.

My own education history

B ED Hons Degree 2:1 from North Riding College of Education. NCSL National Professional Qualification of Headship.

Additional biographical information

I have become increasingly concerned about the adverse impact of the current education system in the UK on children's confidence - particularly those who do not naturally excel in mathematics and literacy. My mission is to inject some creativity back into the curriculum to enable all children to shine and to celebrate all children whatever their unique giftings and to support learning in mathematics and literacy. I believe that all children have the potential to learn effectively and need to have the opportunity to show case their individual strengths.
