The Comprehension Strategies Bookmark provides students with a list of six essential comprehension strategies to use while reading: 1) Hypothesizing and Predicting; 2) Summarizing; 3) Visualizing; 4) Using Prior Knowledge; 5) Monitoring Comprehension, and 6) Fixing Comprehension Errors. This contains a picture strip for the r-controlled vowels: ar, ir, er, ur, and a larger picture card of each that can be posted in the classroom.
The strip can be printed onto card stock and laminated for durability. I place the strip on the table during Guided Reading for the students to use when reading. The picture that goes with "ar" sound is that of a pirate because pirates say, "arrrr."
