Multiplying by 3s - Connecting Repeated Addition and Multiplication
This activity was designed to help students make the connection between equal groups, repeated addition, and multiplication. Students are given the opportunity to draw 3 objects in each group to help them visualize the problem. Then students are prompted to write both a repeated addition equation and a multiplication equation to match. Standard: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.OA.A.1Interpret products of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 5 × 7 as the total number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects each.
