An epidemiologist investigation that allows Biology Students to apply what they understand about viruses and transmission. This is an interactive high level critical thinking activity perfect for extending on virus lessons.

Students will begin by completing a short reading comprehension piece on how noise and light pollution affects different species. They will then participate in The Great Firework Debate. Students will be assigned one side of the argument and will research the pros and cons of fireworks on ecosystems, economies, and societies. After structuring their argument, they will debate their peers on whether or not to keep using fireworks globally.

This interactive assignment makes students Critical Care members that are investigating the cause of illness in a patients. Students will determine severity of symptoms by reading vitals, identify if the illness is viral or bacterial based on lab reports, and prescribe the treatment based on results. This interactive is great at after teaching immune response and virus vs bacteria.

In this interactive slides activity, students will investigate how people in different hemispheres experience the same day. Students will write a short letter to a pen pal in a different part of the world explaining what the weather and climate are like leading up to Christmas. After conducting research, the students will assume the perspective of 2 pen pals and respond describing the weather and climate where they live. This collection of notes provides the essentials for Biology 1 TEKS. In my class, students keep a binder for all notes. I give students a copy of the notes as an introduction to the unit we will be starting along with my Unit Checklists. This covers note-taking assistance accommodations, student accountability tracking, and helps absent students stay on top of learning.
