This workbook was created to help students and young adults identify their talents, skills, and abilities while examining different career fields. Successfully mastering the skills contained therein will allow the scholar to understand more clearly some of the practical knowledge they will need to enter the workforce, negotiate salary and benefits, know how to start a budget, and use other tools to thrive in their new environments and roles.
This is a compilation of all the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math) Lessons I have used over the years in my Digital Technology Curriculum. It is perfect for many classrooms and could be used in a variety of learning environments. Most lessons allow for online resources and have links that will help you differentiate and modify lessons for many different grades and experience levels. Have Fun!
Students will use Google Sheets to complete a basic timecard. Millions of people complete these weekly to report the time they spend at their jobs. Most of these timecards are used to calculate the paycheck that is sent to the home for the work they do. It is critical that you learn the basics of how this document works, and how to calculate basic taxes and deductions.
Students will be able to identify a college and career path, find their first job, look for an apartment, transportation, utilities, and navigate the choices made bysetting up a basic budget for the first time on their own! This 10-Lesson Project Pack is full of links, helpful hints, and enough work to keep any class busy collaborating and having fun learning about the choices they will make for REAL in the very near future.
Students will create a digital art project that helps them to visualize data. By following the directions they will make personal choices and add graphic representations to a sketchpad.io drawing. They will upload their final project to a file sharing service and turn it in electronically.
Students will use research skills, classroom discussion, and collaboration (if required) to organize information, identify multimedia assets, and create a trifold travel brochure of a place they would like to visit. This project could be adjusted for any class, to include literary text, geographic areas, or be converted to a political brochure if necessary. Teachers Interviewing for a job can use this outline (Start a Business) to run a 15-minute Demonstration Lesson for an interview. It can be done in person on as a collaborative lesson online using breakout rooms.
Students will imagine, design, and price out a "Great Room" Architectural Project. They will estimate flooring and paint costs, itemize furniture, electronics, and other items for their new room, and create a basic architectural CAD drawing of their project (2D /3D) renderings. The ultimate deliverable is a presentation outlining their choices.
Students should learn the basics about savings accounts and invest in the Stock Market. Students will use independent learning time to navigate through a series of videos to help them better understand basic Personal Budgets, Saving Money, Credit Card Tips, and how to Invest in Company Stocks. Students will complete a Worksheet, a Google Form Reflection, and sign up for our class Virtual Stock Market Game.
Students in any class can use this lesson to create a board game. The theme of the game could be derived from a source in, or out of class. This project was created specifically for a 3D Modeling class (3D Printing), but could be utilized as a cross-curricular project.
Self-reflection can be a great tool for students to build confidence and improve in a variety of areas, but they need your guidance. Art allows us to express ourselves in ways that words cannot. Create opportunities for sharing and discussion while doing this activity with a group.
Students will learn to write a directed cover letter and create a resume that is either chronological or skills-based. Students should learn to create, edit, and share files using MSFT or Google products equally well.
Students use various digital tools to create Board Game Packaging, Sell Sheets, and a video pitch. Can be used as a stand-alone lesson, or a competition.
Students will utilize resources and worksheets to create storybooks with characters, plots, and settings appropriately.
