Experience

Before becoming a Resource Specialist Program (RSP) Teacher in 2022, I spent 4 years as an Instructional Assistant, supporting both general education and special education students. Those years working side-by-side with students and teachers inspired my journey into teaching—it showed me firsthand the power of patience, creativity, and connection in helping learners thrive. Now, as an RSP Teacher, I am passionate about creating safe, inclusive classrooms where every student feels valued and capable. Teaching style

My teaching style centers on fostering critical thinking and building student confidence through positive reinforcement. I believe that when students feel safe, valued, and encouraged, they are more willing to take risks, ask questions, and engage deeply with their learning. I create inclusive classrooms where differentiated instruction and personalized accommodations ensure that every learner has the tools they need to succeed—academically, socially, and emotionally.

Awards & shining teacher moments

While I have not received formal awards for my work with students, my greatest rewards come from their success. I take pride in meeting students where they are, recognizing their unique needs, and supporting them as they work toward their goals. Some of my proudest moments are watching students gain the skills and confidence to exit the RSP program and thrive in the general education setting. One standout moment from last year was seeing a student achieve an extraordinary 400%+ annual typical growth in iReady—a testament to their determination, hard work, and the power of individualized support. For me, those achievements are the true awards of teaching.

My own education history

Bachelor of Arts in Sociology Master of Arts in Teaching - Elementary Education Completion of Education Specialist Intern Program

Additional biographical information

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from California State University San Marcos, a Master in Elementary Education from Western Governors University, and credentialed as an Education Specialist (Mild to Moderate) from Riverside County Office of Education. My road to becoming a teacher was a long and winding one. I vividly remember being around 7 years old and teaching my stuffed animals math and assigning them homework. It was always a time that brought me joy. Though my love for teaching was sparked early, as an adult I stayed in my comfort zone for decades. I worked for financial companies focusing on accounting and client services. It wasn’t until I became a parent that my interest in teaching was reignited. Being part of a military family we relocated often, but I was able to volunteer at schools, became a substitute teacher while in Florida, and when we settled in Southern California I became an instructional assistant. In 2020, the ability to pursue my passion opened and with wonderful mentors and support I started my journey to become a teacher. After 2 years, I earned my Masters of Arts in Teaching Elementary Education. I looked forward to being a general education teacher, yet that wasn’t my true calling. Special Education kept calling me and my heart new what I should do. I became an Education Specialist intern that year through Riverside County Office of Education and earned my mild to moderate credentialing in 2024. I feel fulfilled with the connections I have made and continue my growth as an educator through personal development and mentorship. This school year I also took on the responsibility of being the school’s representative for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This has opened my eyes to all the wonderful work being done to assist students and the work being done to continue its positive impact. The students I have and have had the pleasure of working with serve as my why in continuing to work in special education. Education is ever changing and I am eager to learn and provide students with new strategies to assist in their growth.
