Creative Composition Class
During my first year of teaching, I realized that some very bright kids didn't want to do the work I was assigning. Some of them went out of their way to do exactly the opposite of what I was trying to require. I understood those kids, and I felt like those kids at every staff meeting.

Fun Bumper Sticker Student Info Sheet
Students don't necessarily enjoy filling out an info sheet in each class, but they'll like yours.
It starts with a short bumper sticker assignment. I've had students present these, but you don't have to. If you've ever wondered what students think of their own writing skills and where they think they need help, this download can provide some insight. Use it at the beginning of the class to see where the students think you need to focus your efforts.
While it's true that assessments and tests can identify where skills are lacking, students might see it differently, and this form allows them to take ownership, even if you are using standardized assessments in order to inform your actual decision

Teaching style
Use of technology in the classroom when useful. Taught several classes completely online. Emphasis on Cultural Literacy and background knowledge in order to understand literature and how to write, but also to connect with other classes.
My wife was the typical martyr teacher who planned until 7pm on a Friday for the next week. Her lessons are organized and usable out of the box, whereas a teacher might have to step outside the box to see how cool my lessons can be.
Awards & shining teacher moments
My honor was to have students published in my creative writing classes, students who otherwise disliked school or
English class to succeed, and for students to tell me today that they remember lessons from over a decade ago.
Many of the honors and awards from my past will do little to shape my future, but the fact that people like you are purchasing and using some of these lessons that took me hours upon hours of my own time to create is a great honor. Some of these units were important in the lives of students I was able to reach, and there's magic in a few of the assignments. I just hope that these downloads being here for you can make your life a little easier.
