About the store
I have worked as a mild/moderate teacher for K-5 for 2 years. Before K-5 experience, I taught at a private preschool on a farm. For the past three years, I have worked as a significant support needs teacher for student in 6-12th grades. Despite the chronological age being in the teens, we are working on skills which are at a K-6 grade level. I love this current age group (although, I haven't found an age group I dislike), and I have a passion for helping them learn material at their level while keeping it age-appropriate.

Extended School Year can be daunting to have to come up with appropriate materials for a short amount of time. The unit I created has seven texts to support you for about seven weeks of learning. There are math lessons, comprehension questions, progress monitoring sheets, and a passport to help your students stay engaged throughout the summer.

The 40 most used words in the English language need to be practiced. This CORE word game looks like a deck of cards which can turn practice into fun. You can use the cards for progress monitoring the use of CORE words on a device or expressively. The cards can be used for an intervention activity where the student practices independently. Students can use the cards like the game War. The first student to find or say the word gets the card. The one with the most cards win.

As we are developing our coffee cart, we are trying to encourage applicable job skills along with math, reading, and writing skills. We are a high school after all. We implemented an inventory system for students to count boxes, gallons, cups, and lids of what we need to have stocked. They fill this out every week, and provide the information to manager of the store to restock the items by ordering through amazon or staples. The manager will get approval through me, and I will submit the order.

The Reading comprehension accompanies the Wonders of the World text. There are no pictures as this should be read aloud with the students. If students are capable of reading and can answer the questions, they should. The questions come straight from the text, so there are no questions. There are two different levels. One level is for more independent readers. The other level is for the readers that will be completing the questions with a teacher.

To accompany the unit of Wonders of the World, there are math lessons which can be used during ESY. The lessons can be modified to do part of the lesson for all, then you can choose to extend it to the back side of the sheet for those that move faster. They correlate to the different aspects of the wonder of the world for that week or wonder.

ESY: Wonders of the World Passport

The ESY passport helps students keep track of their learning throughout the summer and/or unit. They get to cut and paste a stamp on each of the pages to show that they completed their "travel" in that wonder. It is a fun way for them to show their parents and/or guardians what they have learned each week and/or at the end of the unit.

Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day book and movie have similarities and differences. On a day that you need something to do (e.g., sub day), but feel bad about just watching a movie, use this resource to tie the book and movie together. I had the substitute or paraprofessional read the book aloud and discuss aspects of the book, then they watched the movie. After the movie was over, they read the book again, and did this compare/contrast together.
