Experience

I am currently an Education Specialist in an elementary school. I have been in education for 19 years and taught in grades K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th.

Teaching style

I run my classroom through both whole group and independent activites. These independent activities are the focus of my center time. I work to differentiate learning for all learners and continually monitor their progress.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I am a National Board Certified Teacher, Columbia County Reading Teacher of the Year and State of Florida Reading Teacher of the Year Finalist, Golden Apple Teacher finalist and Teacher of Distinction, Lee County Teacher of the Year finalist, Who's Who Among American Teachers and a State DIBELS and FAIR Trainer. I have taught school and district level workshops on Spalding Phonics, DIBELS, literacy centers, math bar diagraming and current teaching strategies.

My own education history

I graduated from University of South Florida with a BA in Elementary Education and Capella University with both a Masters and Doctorate in Reading and Literacy. I have my reading endorsement as well as my ESOL endorsement.
