Its about what the student needs. When we keep solely to our personal comfort zone, we miss addressing the way some of our kid's learn. I have found you must be flexible, yet maintain consistency. Be fair and honest, when I make a mistake, I apologize to the student, the same I would like for them to do to me. Any teacher who is successful, must also acknowledge the fact that we have to make personal connections with the student's and their families to have greatest positive impact. I also guide, support and facilitate relationships for the students with others--this is critical so students are connected to a system of support rather than a single entity. Believe in them, let them know you do, and watch them grow.
