Hexagonal Review Activities for AP World History Units 1-9

In this package, you'll have access to my Google Drive files for Hexagonal Review activities. This includes the pdfs and editable Google Docs for each unit's hexagonal review activities. You can edit these if you'd like, but they already come with all of the terms included for each unit. In the word bank boxes, I've also highlighted the "Illustrative Examples" that were from the College Board CED to help those stand out if you'd like to include them or not as bonus points or whatnot. Hexagonal thinking activities have been all the rage for the past few years. It's a great way for students to make meaningful, memorable connections between terms and reinforce their learning for long-term retention. While cutting out hexagons may be part of the kinesthetic draw of the activity (and honestly makes it so much more engaging and memorable) it was more of a burden on time for my students. In APUSH, we're sprinting through the content, historical reasoning skills, and writing skills

CCC, TVA, WPA, AAA, FDIC, SEC, HOLC, FHA, Social Security…. FDR's alphabet soup of New Deal programs is so extensive it's hard for your students to make them meaningful and keep track of them. In this game, students use their knowledge of FDR's New Deal acts, programs, and agencies to predict the best one to address each crisis card. This game reinforces FDR’s New Deal policies without being boring or being pure rote practice. I’ve used it to introduce the policies in academic US History c

Building anchor points as schema for students to link their knowledge to is so helpful throughout the course of a year. The APUSH curriculum is bursting at the seams with content, and fantastically so. For some students, making meaning of and memorizing the sheer quantity of concepts, events, figures, acts, amendments, SCOTUS decisions, and more may be a joy, and for others, a bit of a chore to say the least. However, no matter the student, it’s likely to become challenging to keep track of the

If you're a US History or APUSH teacher looking for a spooky tale to tell during class, look no further. Here's a mostly true narrative regarding the deaths of American presidents but twisted around the tale of a Shawnee curse. I've included sound effects and the storyline along with images in a Google Slides presentation to guide you in telling the story. It will take around 5-10 minutes to tell, depending on how much theatricality you put into it. The script is provided, a slideshow is provide

If you need a low-prep, high-yield learning activity that is engaging and fun, this one's for you! Take any primary source artifact, and turn it into a "see, wonder, think" lesson. The concept can be applied to any primary source image. I used photographs of artifacts for my junior high social studies classes to mix things up every other week. This activity is very flexible and can be perfect for bell-ringers to introduce a topic or as the main learning activity. I've included a blank Google D

All 9 historical periods of CED objectives and key concepts are included in these learning target trackers. Have students keep track of their progress throughout each APUSH unit of study. They can jot down a few key concepts and phrases that help sum up the main idea for each CED objective. Then, students use the Likert Scale self-assessment ratings to measure where they think they've arrived so far in their comprehension of each CED objective along the way. Finally, students record their plan

The object of this activity is for students to answer questions to receive numbers for the number lock on the door of the virtual escape room. Students click on objects in the virtual room to open up Google Forms that have readings, maps, and comprehension questions. The topics include the Virginia Company in Jamestown, Pilgrims, Puritans, and

Students were always asking me for a formula of some sort to help write their FRQ's. They wanted a way I could guide them through each of their early attempts at writing DBQ's and LEQ's. Over the past five years, I've trialed many different ways of doing this and experienced pretty much the same results with all of them. Templates were generally the most helpful in this regard. It was hard to make a template that was streamlined, yet descriptive enough... Visually a bit more aesthetically appeal
