This is a part 2 to the hotwheels lab I posted earlier. This is another great way to practice calculating speed in a fun activity. Find an area where students can sprint and have them time each other to calculate their speeds in m/s. This lab usually takes two days.
Starting a science fair at your school? Not sure what to do? Completely lost and overwhelmed? Here is a packet that you can take day by day! This packet can be used as rough drafts for all the different parts of the science day project and chunks each section into smaller parts to make this big endeavor more accessible.
This is a good end of year activity that students can do! Dinosaurs are not in science standards but it is a good way to use a week if you have no plans and also helps the students research!
This is a great lab to do with students to teach potential and kinetic energy! If it is nice out, you can even take your students outside to do this lab!!
Tying to human impact and ecology, The Beach Boys in thier 1971 album "Surfs Up" made a few songs relating to climate change/human impact. This is a good way to exersize not only analyzing human impact on earth but also an engaging activity of song analysis, which is not often done in the Science classroom. I recommend first having the students read the lyrics and mark the lyrics. Then listen to the song and have them note their observations and how the music changes their view on the song. Enj
Great lab to do with grades 6-8 with basic materials! I have found that prepping pre squished strawberries for the students streamlines the process. To make the extraction fluid, mix water, salt, and dish soap at a 25:1:2 ratio.
To teach kinetic and potential energy, this project will have students make catapults out of popsicle sticks and hot glue. Make sure to stock up on hot glue for this project!
This is a classic lab using physics spring loaded carts. Make sure you have mass sets you can use for this lab. At the end is the conclusion format I use for labs, but this document is editable.
