About the store
My mother and I combined have 20+ years in education. My mother (Judy Brown) worked in the special education field and the 2nd grade classroom. She is still involved with children through systematic testing 3 times a year. She also tutors students in reading. I (Rachel Thiry) will start my 5th year in the 3rd grade classroom. Spring Subtraction Story Problems with Regrouping
~This activity is excellent for use in a math workshop setting.
Each workshop group is given a set of cards and recording sheet. The students work together to complete each story problem.
~SCOOT activity
Place the cards around the classroom. Give each student a recording sheet. Students rotate through each card completing the story problem.
When completing the SCOOT activity, I require my students to check in with me after they finish 3 problems. Check in with me allows me to monitor

Subitizing - Pineapples
Subitizing is the skill of instantly recognizing a quantity without having to count each object. The skill of subitizing aids in students’ number sense development.
While using the cards during math workshop time, encourage students to say something like, “I know this is 9 because I see a group of 5 and a group of 4.” Or “This is 6 because two groups of 3 equal 6.”
