About the store
I began my teaching career in 2010. I have taught second, third, fifth and sixth grades in both self-contained and departmentalized classrooms and served as a math team coach. My education includes a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Athens State University (2009), a Master of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of North Alabama (2020), and an Education Specialist degree from the University of North Alabama (2022). Elementary mathematics is my passion! Providing quality instruction is an art; however, the single most important thing I do is step away from my content and build positive and impactful relationships with my students. If you can reach the heart, you can reach the mind!

Thank you for choosing my Pizza Project! This project-based learning experience engages students through wonder, discovery, and exploration. While much of the work focuses on unit fractions, students follow the same skill pathway used when adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators—supporting a natural transition to non-unit fractions. Along the way, students find common denominators, explore equivalent fractions, and reason about fraction structure using processes that mirr

Comparing Fractions Using Reasoning / Strategies

Build Conceptual Understanding of Fractions — Beyond Tricks and Shortcuts! This activity is a powerful way to teach fifth and sixth graders how fractions truly work, moving beyond rote memorization and “tricks” like the butterfly method. Students develop conceptual understanding and learn to reason about the size of fractions. While shortcuts have their place, conceptual understanding must come first. What’s included: There are two different kinds of practice sets, each containing a set-A and

Identifying Fractions in Simplest Form

This is one of my favorite concepts to teach. This different approach results in a high instructional return. GIVE IT A TRY!! When simplifying fractions, students must determine whether a fraction is already in simplest form—but how do they know? This fraction sorting activity teaches students what to look for when deciding if a fraction is in simplest form, rather than relying on rote procedures. From years of classroom experience, this strategy is easy for students to learn and naturally be
