I'm not a big fan of tape diagrams, but if a student can understand tape diagrams, they can really nail down the conceptual understanding of fractions. Students don't create their own tape diagrams with these problems. Instead, they critically examine pre-drawn tape diagrams and determine their accuracy when applying them to a word problem.
