This file, in pdf format, contains six activities for students who are entering 6th grade. These are created to keep students engaged during the first day(s) of school prior to beginning the curriculum.
Activity #1 “Create Your Own” 1 page
Students must create addition and subtraction number sentences using fractions and decimals.

Activity #2 “Favorites” 1 page
Students will complete a brief survey about some of their favorite things.

This is a flip book for students to use as a study guide, or reference with examples, for learning absolute value, and adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers. The rules are given, and students will add examples for each operation.
Students will cut out the 8 sections and staple them together. The teacher can decide how to have students fill in the examples, all at once, or as the skill is taught. Adding color is optional.

When finished, students will color, cut, fold, and tape the cube.
Skills:
• Describe and write an example of an unbiased and a biased situation.
• Calculate the probability of given situations using an eight section
spinner.
• Calculate the compound probability of given situations using a
four section spinner and a fair coin.

Students are given coordinate pairs to plot, which will form a palm tree. Students must calculate the new image using a scale factor of 0.5, and complete the table listing the new points. Then, plot the new image.
**I have included a Quadrant One coordinate. For more of a challenge, students may create a grid using graph paper (not included).
