Engage Mathematical Thinking

I recently had an epiphany after creating my last fair share product. Why not make fair share problems fun using silly scenarios and mythical creatures to boost some intrinsic motivation for math. Students can help the dwarves fairly share their gems, or help the unicorns spilt up their horseshoes. I included problems that involve dragons, mermaids, fairies, bakers and aliens in the different fair share problems. This is a collection of 25 activities. Students are asked to decide which equation doesn't belong in each group of 4. After making their selection, students are prompted to explain their choice with a number of options at the bottom of the page. This product was designed to hone student's higher order thinking skills as well as build on their conceptual understanding of fact families and other mathematical concepts.

This product was created to support primary students who are exploring the concept of fair-sharing. By using cut and paste activities, the product incorporates the manipulatives needed to solve the problems. This no prep product uses holiday and everyday based situations to create problems that the students need to solve. It includes problems that involve 2 and 4 sharers as well as situations that involve a remainder. It was designed to support primary students with the Ontario curriculum.

This product contains a number of worksheets that ask the student to place random numbers on number lines. The focus being the development of magnitude and numeracy skills in your students. The number lines range in values from 0 to 20 and up to 0 to 50. I have differeniated the level of some of the sheets by including a graduated scale between each 10 number to assist students in number placement.

This is a compilation of over 63 pages of mathematical problems and a few other worksheets. It includes both open and closed ended problems that range from simple adding and subtracting to two step items involving division. I have tried to use common everyday items in the questions.

This product can be used to introduce students to the concept of repeated addition. Students draw a number of pictures and count how many items they have drawn. Tasks become increasingly more difficult as students create their own repeated addition sentences. There is also a 'How to Draw' section that can be used to help students draw some of the more difficult pictures.

I created this product to build on the intrinsic motivation of that card game to promote student literacy skills.
