The purpose of these labs, 2 Labs Total, is to analyze the relationship between an object's mass and momentum and an object's velocity and overall momentum. These labs will help reinforce the concept of conservation of momentum and collisions by analyzing the momentum of marble(s) rolling down a ramp to see how it affects a stationary cup at the bottom. Each lab has detailed instructions for setup, procedures, and all the questions explained. These labs cover the following topics/ideas:Conserv
When an object is moving in a circular path with constant "tangential" speed, this object is said to be in a uniform circular motion. This is caused by having a net force directed toward the center of the circular path. This net force has a name, centripetal force. This file contains 4 labs that analyze the concepts that contribute to centripetal force. These labs can be conducted with simple household items. Each lab has a hand out for your students that will help them master the concepts of c

The purpose of this lab is to investigate the relationship between velocity and energy with a hands on activity. Students will use a glass marble or ball bearing to serve as a falling object that impacts a surface just like an Asteroid or Meteorite. The energy released by the falling object will make a crater in the surface, just like craters on the Earth and the Moon. The falling objects kinetic energy is transferred to work when the object interacts with the surface, thus moving the surface ar
This powerpoint will address graphing motion and show students how to construct and interpret graphs. This powerpoint will show your students how to analyze diagrams of position, velocity, and acceleration versus time. Students will also analyze and determine the slope and area of each graph and the meaning. There is also a small mini lab at the end. ENJOY. *Note, this powerpoint was created on GOOGLE SLIDE. This can easily be converted to a powerpoint pptx file by conducting the following.
When you ask your students to look up an image of the Solar System, they will find that almost all the images have the Sun and eight small planets, spaced out evenly, orbing the Sun. This lab will walk your students through deriving the actual scale of the Solar System. This lab has been designed to be conducted on any sports field!! The distances are already calculated for you and all you have to do is walk it off. This lab comes complete with planetary cut-outs, a two-page worksheet, a detaile
This lab will analyze the relationship between Kinetic and Potential Energy by analyzing an object rolling down a ramp/ inclined plane. You will analyze the correlation between height of an object rolling down the ramp and the velocity of the object at the bottom of the ramp. This is a great way to have your students explore kinetic and potential energy.
The objective of this lab is to explore and analyze the relationship between force, mass, and acceleration. According to Newton's Second Law, the acceleration, a, of a body is directly proportional to the vector sum of the forces, ΣF, applied to the body: ΣF = ma. This lab is a great starter for younger students and can be tailored for more advanced students. Enjoy!
