Enriched Teaching

I have been teaching an entire middle school in a high-poverty, rural school in northeast Washington state for almost 20 years. I am also a presenter for and founder of Enriched Teaching LLC. (www.enrichedteaching.com) I also blog monthly for the Center for Strengthening the Teaching Profession. (www.cstp.org) Teaching is my life! ​

I use an authoritative teaching style as my classroom management style. This allows me to provide firm boundaries for my middle school students that are realistic to this unique age and stage needs and capabilities. As an authoritative teacher, I believe deeply in the need to set high standards for my students AND provide the academic and emotional scaffolding needed to assist my students in meeting those standards. I teach in a personalized learning learning environment with an adjacent emphasis on project-based learning.

I am the mother of five, own an farm with my husband and have been renovating a 100 year-old farmhouse for over a decade. The renovation seemed so romantic at first...then the reality of raising babies in a construction zone set in! Almost done-whew! I also love to read, garden, hike, explore our little corner of the world and learn new things!
