About the store
The general education curriculum never quite fit my students in the small group who were capable of learning grade level content, but not in the same way or time frame as everyone else. Nothing I found tackled both recoupment of skills and the new skills and strategies they were suppose to learn in the meantime, all while staying on pace to cover everything by the years end. I wanted them to feel successful and like they were learning the same concepts on pace with their typical peers. I found myself recreating and creating materials of my own inspired by Illustrative Math strategies used in my districts general education math classes to help my students access their grade level standards, similar to their peers, and feel successful. I am happy and excited to begin to share those with other teachers on the same journey! Interested in a CUSTOM BUNDLE? Teaching style

My biggest challenge teaching middle school math to students with learning disabilities and other special education needs has always been access to the general education curriculum. This has led me to create resources for my students inspired by Illustrative Math strategies, broken down into smaller, more manageable chunks, problems that are less wordy and strategies that can be used step by step and repeated until it is mastered. I aim to incorporate the ideas of Illustrative Math in discovering why things happen in math, and how to apply it to real life, combined with the step by step process students with learning disabilities need to get started in solving a problem.

My own education history

This is my 8th year of being a special education middle school teacher in New Jersey, with the goal of showing kids who historically hate math, that it really isn't all that bad! With the right strategies and support they can learn to love it just alittle bit more than they did the year before. I have taught the range of students in the special education continuum from students with more significant disabilities to students with ADHD, processing speed differences and learning disabilities.
