I have been a public school educator since 2017 and a private chess teacher since 2015. I specialize in teaching toddlers and kids up to age 10 the foundation they need to become excellent chess players.
All chess pieces have what is called a "material value". This worksheet provides a key, and asks students to circle which piece is worth more. This is a very basic exercise that can be done with kids as young as 4 years old.
This worksheet quizzes students on the difference of check and checkmate. This is an alternative to my other worksheet, but here the student can just circle the answer. This may be helpful for students who struggle with writing.
This worksheet quizzes students on whether a position is check or checkmate. As a reminder check is when the king CAN escape the attack and checkmate is when the king CAN NOT escape the attack.
Students need to circle the group of pieces with more material value. See my store for the beginner friendly version of this worksheet.
