Teaching style

We believe the best way to help children learn is to consider the whole child. We consider their hearts and minds through hands-on activities, opportunities for creativity, and scaffolded instruction that supports children as they learn. Our teaching resources include illustrations, graphics, and photos that bring learning alive and make concepts and information relatable and concrete, and our lessons tap into higher-order thinking skills to develop students’ lifelong problem-solving skills. We provide learning experiences that engage, delight, and inspire students on their academic journeys at school and at home.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Evan-Moor resources have received over 50 awards from prestigious teaching and parent organizations since 2000. Our most recent awards include Creative Child Magazine Awards, National Parenting Product Awards, Parents’ Picks Awards, and the Homeschool Reader Award.

My own education history

Evan-Moor began with two elementary school teachers, Joy Evans and Jo Ellen Moore, who enjoyed spending their time in their classrooms, which overlooked Monterey Bay, California, and creating lessons and activities to help their students learn. Joy loved creating hands-on activities—drawing, art, and learning centers that felt like games. Jo Ellen loved to write fiction and nonfiction stories, poems, and chants to engage her students in learning across the curriculum. They shared their lessons with their fellow teachers, who encouraged them to sell their lessons to other teachers. Joy’s brother, Bill Evans, joined Joy and Jo Ellen and helped them start a business. And so Evan-Moor Educational Publishers began. We are still located in Monterey, California, and we are as committed as ever to continuing the tradition of supporting our fellow teachers with meaningful lessons that engage children in learning. We are excited to work with teachers and parents to ignite young minds and help every child learn and succeed.
