As students are watching Myth Buster from The Discovery Channel, students need to fill out this sheet as it applies to the scientific method. There are two segments within each episode so a front and back side to the worksheet has been included for you. Also, a "reminder" section is included to help students out in case they forget the details to one of the steps. This is a great sub plan, emergency sub plan, or great to use during the scientific method unit at the beginning of the school yea

The purpose of this research report is for students (grades 7-9) to get a further understanding in how mutations on various genes cause different types of diseases. The project should be given to students once they have background knowledge on genetics and heredity so near the end of the unit would be best. In a class of 24 for example, place 24 numbers in a container and those numbers are the order for the picking of the genetic diseases. Don't allow more that two of the same genetic disease

In this class activity, students will each pick up a cup with a number on it. They will record this number on their worksheet. All of the cups are full of water except one cup number has a weak amount of sodium hydroxide. After you've demonstrated a "switch-a-roo" which is basically pouring the liquids back and forth with another student, students will then record who they made their "switch-a-roo" with. After 4 "switch-a-roo's" I walk around and put a few drops of phenothalein into their cu

It could be 3 different paper towels, 3 different root beers, 3 different sun glasses, etc. They will set up their experiment and will have students rate their products (brand names covered) on a 5 to 1 rating scale. Upon completion, students will analyze their data to determine if they support or reject their hypothesis and will create data in their observation section of their lab write up. It

In this activity, students act out as organelles in a cell. Every student will have a detailed paragraph describing themselves as organelles and they have to perform some sort of physical activity that is listed in bold on the handout. Students have props and perform a variety of functions. Students do this with a volleyball net, bucket of water, bag of sugar, desk lamp, along with a variety of other props. This will help to make the cell learning experience become more lasting and memorable

The purpose of this worksheet is to help students understand that science terms have primarily a greek or latin origin. If students are able to "dissect" or recognize the greek or latin prefix or suffix, then they will be able to get an idea of what the science term is all about. See the download preview for a better understanding of what this worksheet is all about. Enjoy!
