I work with middle school and high school EL students from various linguistic and economical backgrounds. My students range from low to high in their language proficiency levels. This is my 8th year teaching in the exciting field of TESOL. I started my career in China and have a love and fascination for all cultures and languages.

Comets: Background Knowledge (Pre-Reading Activity for ELs)
Prior to reading an article from NewsELA (link below), students are given T/F statements (all statements are True) on background information on Comets. After students discuss what they think/believe/know about comets, the teacher will present the PPT on Comets which includes visuals. Students can then read the article from NewsELA. Teaching style
I take a student-centered teaching approach when working with my ELs. Visuals, manipulatives and graphic organizers are my go-to's for helping ELs unblock language barriers as well as engaging them in the lesson.

When I'm not teaching or trying to come up with engaging lessons for my students, I enjoy spending time with my family and dog. I have many hobbies and interests such as: writing, reading, travel, hiking, kickboxing, and cooking.
