About the store
I have had the privilege of calling myself a teacher for 6 years. For most of that time, I taught in a highly competitive school district, and as I’m sure many of you can relate to, I didn’t start out in a tenure-track position right away. As a result, my resume features the following experiences: a half-year as an elementary science specialist (the perfect pairing of my teaching degree with my bachelor’s in biology), half a year in 2nd grade, half a year in 3rd, a year and a half in 4th grade, a year in 5th, and (finally, with a permanent gig!) 2 years in 1st. The silver lining to my years of moving from grade-level to grade-level? I feel these experiences not only made me a stronger, more versatile teacher, but I’ve also accumulated many resources that are applicable for various elementary-aged students! I am excited to share what I’ve amassed over the years through TeachersPayTeachers.

Finding the Actual Mass of an Object Lesson Plan

This is a science lesson plan geared toward mid- to upper-elementary students. The objective is for the student to be able to determine the actual mass of an object that is held by a container by subtracting the mass of the container from the total mass of the container and its contents. Included are the lesson plan write-up, student recording sheet, and an accompanying homework sheet designed to extend the learning beyond this lesson.

Teaching style

I believe that children thrive on a predictable routine that provides a framework for their day. My lessons are typically modelled after this philosophy, following a similar sequence of steps each day (e.g. thinking question/warm-up, group lesson, partner practice, group discussion, individual practice, summarizer) while varying the content and specific activities to keep young minds engaged. Interactive technology has always been a key tool in my success as an educator, and I am excited to share some of my work on TpT.
