It's My Life: A real-life budgeting activity with decimals

This activity is a great way to apply decimal skills to real life. Students will manage a budget and write checks to pay their bills. There is also a group activity at the end that allows them to experience real situations (doctor bills, eating out, etc.). My students LOVE this activity!

Graphing Project

Students LOVE this activity, and it is a fantastic way to assess their understanding of creating and analyzing data. They will gather their own data and create a frequency table, bar graph, circle graph and data analysis based on their results. This is a perfect way to wrap up a graphing unit and check for understanding at the same time!

Fraction and Decimal Choice Board

This activity is good for checking students' knowledge and understanding with fractions and decimals. Students choose 3 activities that form a tic-tac-toe. Great for review stations or an in-class activity to check for understanding. Kids love it because they are able to choose which tasks they complete.

Tell Me More! Beginning of School Icebreaker (Cootie Catcher)

This is a fantastic way for students to get to know each other while integrating math! Problems include things such as "There are _____ added to 3 letters in my last name.", which forces a two-way conversation between partners. They will love creating a Cootie Catcher and working in pairs, small group, or as a whole group as they talk about themselves. This could be tailored to just your class, an academic team, or the entire school.

"Sell Your City" Project

This project includes both an individual and group assignment as students become travel agents that will design packages for fans cheering their team on in the march basketball tournament. Cities are assigned and brochures are created. Groups then create presentations convincing the committee to host the tournament in their city. Kids LOVE this activity!
