We probably all started adding and subtracting using our fingers as a visual. It’s a great and easy way to model addition and subtraction within ten. As your students start learning how to add and subtract, encourage the use of models. This will help them understand the concept, rather than just memorizing facts. Teaching style
I am a Certified 7-12 Mathematics teacher in Texas. I have taught at the preschool, elementary, middle, and high school levels. My focus is on conceptual understanding, student engagement, and real-world application of mathematical concepts.
My own education history
I was in my school's gifted and talented program beginning in 1st grade when our program began. I graduated from high school in the International Baccalaureate program in 1999. I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis cum laude with my Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Civil Engineering in 2003.
