About the store
My name is Jenny-Lyn, and I am an educator who has an interest in adult, elementary (Grade 1 to 6) and ESL education. I was born in Ontario, Canada and finished a Humanities B.A. at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus. I was fortunate to gain three years of teaching experience with adult learners in Japan but was ready to return to the classroom after completing a Diploma of Education in Melbourne, Australia. I taught ESL students between 5 and 12 years of age in Nunavut Canada, before moving to Ottawa in 2015. Four years as a Long-Term Occasional Teacher with Ottawa Carleton District School Board led me through grade 3 ETFI, Junior Autism and many other unique roles. However, in 2019 I became a permanent teacher and am excited to be teaching full-time kindergarten in 2020. My passion continues to be in the field of English as a Second language and so I always create materials with the needs of these students in mind.

Block Centre Resource: Traffic Signs

The following resource was created to improve the block play centre in my kindergarten classroom. The size of each traffic sign, folding line and cutting guides match the measurements for use with Ikea’s Tolsby picture frame (10cm X 15cm). Furthermore, an additional template has been included for students to use to design and record their building projects on paper as part of the documentation process. Experience

My name is Jenny-Lyn, and I am an educator who has an interest in adult, elementary (Grade 1 to 6) and ESL education. I was born in Ontario, Canada and finished a Humanities B.A. at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus. Teaching style

Being a kinaesthetic learner myself, I engage students through hands-on and creative lessons. Some of the methods that inspire and provide a foundation include Picture Word Induction Model, Transforming Learning and Picturing Writing. I also adopt smaller community programs (e.g. Participaction150) to create classroom experiences that are meaningful to the students' lives.

My own education history

Along with a Diploma of Education through La Trobe University in Melbourne, I have completed additional qualification courses in the following subjects... Teaching First Nation, Metis and Inuit Children (2015), Mathematics Primary and Junior Part 1 (2015), English as a Second Language Part 1 (2012), Part 2 (2013) and Specialist (2014), Special Education Part 1 (2012) and Part 2 (2014), Reading Part 1 (2012), Part 2 (2014) and Specialist (2015), Kindergarten Part 1 (2013) Part 2 (2020)

Additional biographical information

It is not possible to write about myself and not include a reference to my orange fur baby Potato. He joined our family in 2018 from a cat shelter in Smith Falls and has been our purring alarm clock ever since. Though he has yet to visit my classroom, students feel as if he is one of our clutter as he often becomes part of the stories I tell in class.
