Experience

Helping K–3 students build strong reading foundations using a research-based, multisensory-phonemic approach aligned with the Science of Reading. Designed for K–3 classrooms, English Learners, and reading intervention, Eyewords provides a structured pathway from letter–sound learning to high-frequency word automaticity, phonemic awareness, and sound mapping. Not sure where to start? • New to structured literacy → Start with Alpha-Code • Teaching high-frequency words → Use Eyewords • Ready to connect sounds to spelling → Use Eyewords with Sound Mapping Jennifer Orr is an award-winning educator with 28+ years of experience. She developed Eyewords to create research-backed, classroom-tested resources that support foundational reading success.

Teaching style

Eyewords uses a multisensory-phonemic approach that integrates visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and phonemic input to support reading development and word learning and spelling. Through structured, scaffolded instruction, students build letter–sound connections, develop high-frequency word automaticity, and strengthen spelling through sound mapping to support orthographic mapping. Unlike traditional flashcards, this approach is designed to accelerate learning and improve retention by engaging multiple pathways in the brain.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Eyewords resources and methodology have been the focus of published research conducted by a Stanford-led research team. The study, published in Learning and Instruction, demonstrated the effectiveness of a multisensory-phonemic approach in building foundational literacy skills. Jennifer Orr presents at leading literacy and education conferences, including: • World Literacy Summit (Oxford University) • TESOL International Convention and Expo • Illinois Reading Council Conference • TEPSA • Education Summit (online) • ESEA Conference Jennifer is also the recipient of the Education 2.0 Outstanding Leadership Award (2022).
