When teaching the states of matter, I use this worksheet. At the top, the students tell what a solid, liquid, and gas are. Then in the circles, I use small round stickers to illustrate the proximity of the molecules in each state of matter. At the bottom, students list examples of each state of matter.

Activity 1: Fill 2 balloons with water. Freeze one of them. Have one balloon blown up to same size. Place the three balloons on display for students. Follow directions on "Balloon Poke" sheet. Activity 2: Have 3 students put on transparent trash bags. Fill with small balloons to represent particles in a solid, liquid, and gas.
