I have been teaching high school Family and Consumer Sciences for 6 years! I specialize in the Fashion and Interior Design Pathway. However, courses I have taught and loved include:

I also am a teacher advisor for FCCLA and run a student based enterprise for custom apparel, alterations, heat press, vinyl, and embroidery.
I have served and been recognized at the state level for my involvement in curriculum design, test writing, and other accomplishments.

FCS Trail Mix-er First Day Activity
This lesson is meant to introduce students to the many units covered in Family and Consumer Sciences courses. I used this on the first day of school for my FCS Essentials course! It is a hands on activity where students build their own trail mix...where each ingredient corresponds to a unit of study for the course. Hand Sew Valentines Project
This project let's students demonstrate their hand sewing skills by creating a line of Valentines. Students should document their progress from start to finish, from collecting inspiration, to identifying stitch types and techniques used. Students will showcase a cohesive set of valentines to take pride in.

What Colors Look Best On You?
This assignment is a great way for students to analyze the impacts of color in clothing and on personal style. Students have to sample different garments and compare how they contrast or blend with their skin tone, hair, eyes, etc. This is a great assignment that can be completed virtually or modified for in person learning. Great accompaniment to learning about the elements of design.

T-Shirt Redesign Challenge
This is a project where students take an old T shirt and redesign and up cycle it. They can use basic sewing skills or other DIY resources to embellish and make over the garment. This project is designed so that students can also write a blog post about it. This project includes a rubric.

Shopping for Background Features
This digital assignment is a great way for students to get the shopping experience of picking out key background features that represent unity in interior design. They can use local or digital resources to research and document their findings in an editable google doc!

Mini Window Treatments Lesson Plan
This lesson plan is a great hands on activity for demonstrating different window treatments as background features in interior design. It allows students to use fabric samples and mini dowel rods to replicate curtain styles. Students love this every year!

Virtual Daily Work Pass
This vibrant item is a great virtual reward to send out to students who win a game, participate, or go above and beyond to earn a reward during a virtual class. They can use this pass to submit on their LMS in place of work, for up to 10 points. Teacher just has to edit student's name, send to student and it is good to go!

Denim Redesign Challenge
This project is for students to up cycle and recreate a denim garment by adding or embellishing several features. It is used for a Fashion Design class, students should know basic sewing skills but can research various DIY hacks. This includes a rubric, and how to write a blog post about the project. Google friendly.

Teaching style
My teaching style is student centered and hands on. I love to create project based assessments where students can get excited, engaged, and explore learning. I enjoy creative, unforgettable lessons for my students where they put their learning into practice and demonstrate their knowledge through creative and critical thinking skills. I also enjoy the aesthetics of a well designed worksheet, presentation, and/or project.
