Art Criticism - The Leda by Leonardo da Vinci

Created by
FiringDendrites
This lesson features the collage work of Leonardo da Vinci with "the Leda" (1504-1506), providing cultural connectivity, exposing students to art history, and making art criticism accessible. Teaching art criticism through the use of featured artists exposes students to the four steps of the Feldman Model while reducing the academic danger of critiquing peer art. Critiquing professional artists normalizes the practice and should help your students move to self and peer critique in the future.

Art Plaque - DIRECTIONS, RUBRIC & EXAMPLES

Created by

As part of my student's summative assessment experience, I have them create an art plaque for each summative artwork they submit. This serves two purposes: first, it requires students to analyze and reflect on their artwork (meeting critical art standards) and, second, each student artwork is ready for our end of term art show (creating the plaque when the piece is fresh in their mind). There aren't a lot of resources on this topic, so I hope my work helps streamline this process for you.

Teaching style

I believe that the job of an educator is to facilitate learning experiences that provide information for students to make meaning of the world around them. My practice focuses on standards-based learning and assessment. In science I use the NGSS as the foundation to teach Biology and the AP standards to teach Environmental Science. In visual arts, I use the Washington Arts Learning Standards.
