This is a card sort that forces students to look at numbers expressed in scientific notation and to determine if they are written correctly. Students can complete this sort as a group or individually. Furthermore, if done completely, students can glue them into a notebook and explain how the incorrect examples are wrong and correct them.

This activity includes 24 task cards, a student answer sheet, and an answer key. This would be great for a math station, an early finisher activity, or a review activity. Here is two versions of a scientific notation puzzle: a decagon and a matching. You can print and laminate the puzzles to use as a station or for early finishers. Both deal with matching scientific notation with standard form. Both puzzles make for a quick assessment.
