Phonics: Sound Boxes for Digraphs, Dipthongs, and Consonant Blends Grades 1 - 3

Students write a digraph, dipthong, and/or consonant blend in each sound box to form a word. The word is placed next to the sound boxes and students break up the word into sounds. The concept helps students to recognize that two letter can form a different sound. Digraphs, dipthongs, and consonant blends are included. This is a fun activity I like to do whole class because students love to solve the riddles and are really engaged. A sample riddle would be "A person does this with a pencil." Gleaning from sixteen years of experience teaching at the elementary school and college levels, creating lessons and teaching both Reading Comprehension and Writing, I have created and posted worksheets and PowerPoint Presentations on Teachers Pay Teachers. Thousand of teachers have downloaded and used my lesson over the past five years. After taking a Video Production course as part of my online teaching certification at Rutgers University, I decided to videotape my PPTs with my narration and the instruction I would give in my elementary school classes. My videos are colorful, engaging, and interactive. Students can rewind and work at their own pace.
