This is a fun activity I like to do whole class because students love to solve the riddles and are really engaged. A sample riddle would be "A person does this with a pencil." At the end, the students name four things they do in the classroom and four things they do at recess. Look for Verb Riddle answers which I listed separately.

My students have fun solving these simple riddles for nouns. The clues ask the question: "What am I?" for persons, places, or things. Twenty-five riddles and two fill-in charts where students name eight people that are in a family and eight things they ride or play with. I like to do this whole class as it really engages them. Gleaning from sixteen years of experience teaching at the elementary school and college levels, creating lessons and teaching both Reading Comprehension and Writing, I have created and posted worksheets and PowerPoint Presentations on Teachers Pay Teachers. Thousand of teachers have downloaded and used my lesson over the past five years. After taking a Video Production course as part of my online teaching certification at Rutgers University, I decided to videotape my PPTs with my narration and the instruction I would give in my elementary school classes. My videos are colorful, engaging, and interactive. Students can rewind and work at their own pace.
