Fun with Literature

This unit focuses not only the elements of a play but specifically on rhetorical appeals and devices. There are vocabulary quizzes, guided act questions, specific rhetorical break down of Brutus and Antony's speeches, a final assessment that includes a visual and written component, as well as background slide show notes on Caesar and rhetorical techniques.

This bundle has vocabulary, guided reading questions, quote analysis activities, writing assignments, and background information on the novel.

This presentation is broken into two sections and is best done over two days. The first half is related to the time period in which the novel was written and provides a background into Ray Bradbury and various literary terms for students to focus on while reading. The second part, which is in red, focuses on the concept of censorship and provides a brief Youtube video regarding the First Amendment.

Students work together in groups - this can also be switched to an individual project. I have students work in groups for the first section of quotes, they work alone and then discuss the quotes assigned to them in the second section, and in the third section they choose quotes to analyze and share out in groups their quote and analysis.

This activity is designed to create body paragraphs for a longer essay but can be a stand alone assignment - use as a reading assessment or as a writing assignment. Students will choose on prompt, each prompt deals with either an influence on Montag or his conflict. Students will be requires to include a quote, properly cited, and analysis of their chosen quote. There is a graphic organizer included within the assignment.
