Print, cut, laminate and attach to popsicle sticks. This activity can be used during small group and whole group for each student to practice identifying the author's purpose. See who knows how to identify the author's purpose by giving each student their own signs. The set includes visual signs and verb signs for Persuade, Inform and Entertain.
Persuade verbs: convince. encourage, support, etc.
Inform verbs: teach, explain, describe. etc.
Entertain verbs: tell a story, amuse, show, etc.
Students who are still struggling with guide word questions can use this visual to help them find which words will be on the dictionary page.
We use the down and up method with guide words. You check each letter starting with the first guide word going down to the word choice. Then you go up from the word choice to the second guide word.
