Preschoolers need a lot of visual aids to help them verbalize the way they are feeling. Even more when several of them are still strengthening their language skills. Introducing my "Friendly Shapes." They might not seem perfect, but they love having fun through play! Encourage your students to cut the hearts in half(fine motor at play), mix them up, and encourage them to find it's a perfect match (shape recognition through classification-matching, sorting, etc...) Having an emotional check-in with young learners helps them strengthen their social-emotional skills by identifying their feelings. One way I help my students to identify their feelings is by encouraging them to draw them on paper. They may use crayons, markers, or even playdough to shape a facial expression.
