Students can design, draw and colour in their very own treasure map. There is an island outline, grid coordinates, key area and a mini island as well. Students can hide treasure on the island and write directions for a parent to find the treasure or items on their map. They can include their own key to the bottom of the map. They can add in mermaids and mermen, sea creatures like octopus and sharks, a pirate ship, paths, trees, sand, bridges, rocks, caves etc. Once the maps have been coloured an
Students can cut and paste these shapes together to build on their understanding of 3D shapes, 2D shapes, vertices, faces, edges and also their hand crafting skills. My class loved making these and hanging them in the classroom. Printing it on card was much more successful than normal paper. I used this as a guessing activity to encourage students to think about what the shape can be (names of shapes are missing due to this).
Students can design their own dream mansion or their own dream backyard. The activities encourage them to keep track of a budget, draw to scale house and bird's eye view plans. Students are able to be imaginative and creative while focusing on financial maths, scaling and planning.
In this Assessment students are assessed on their ability to: - Identifying and label different types of angles - Estimate the size of different angles - Measure angles using a protractor - Calculate the size of a reflex angle - Solve missing angles on a straight line, right angle or revolution - Solve missing angles in triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons and hexagons It is a multipage test that is in an A4 format.
This pre-test is aimed at Grade 3 - 7 students and includes questions about irregular, regular shapes, shape properties, 2D and 3D shapes, prisms and pyramids, triangles etc. This was great to identify students knowledge and any misconceptions they had about shape.
Students can choose from these six different designs to redraw the image by transforming it to be larger. It encourages students to work on their enlarging/scaling skills, drawing, concentration and their ability to focus on the lines and shapes within the grid and individual squares. There are different levels of abilities for different year levels and skill levels. After drawing their design, students can add colour and decorations to their image. These are at an A4 size but could be scaled to
Students can use the table to record and find the 2D shapes in their classroom. They are able to draw the shape, name it and identify which object contains the 2D shape. The two documents then allows students to extend themselves to identify the 3D shapes and name them. It could also be used as assessment for pre and post tests to highlight what students do or do not know.
This net shape allows students to be creative and share what they did on the holidays. They can decorate, add detail and patterns to their shape. Students need to write and draw about their holiday adventures and then construct the 3D shape. I displayed these in my classroom and the students loved looking at them and sharing them with others.
