As math teachers, we frequently get the question "when will I use this?". With this project, students are able to explore one very practical, real-life application of using area, surface area, and volume calculations. In this four phased project, students will start by researching and designing their own raised garden beds. The four different phases of the project ask students to explore types and cost of wood for building the garden beds, material pricing and volumes for both a sub-irrigation s
The included reason list includes the main definitions, theorems, postulates, and properties used as justifications in algebraic, segment, angle, and parallel line proofs. This is a helpful tool to keep laminated on each student's desk during the proofs unit and as a reason bank during proofs summative assessments. For guided notes and resources over Algebraic Proofs, Segment Proofs, Angle Proofs, and Parallel Line Proofs, check out my Logic and Proofs Unit or Logic and Proofs Unit with V
In the Build with Spheres Mini-Project, students will build a small sculpture and perform calculations regarding surface area and volume of spheres and other objects used. A grading rubric and a helpful hints page for if students get stuck on certain parts of the project are included. To provide student choice, I gave my students the option of this mini-project or my spheres tiered assignment to demonstrate understanding. This spheres assignment can be used as stand-alone or in conjunction wit
This surface area and volume "Robot" project includes an easy to follow project description page and rubric for your students over surface area and volume of many 3D shapes. I have also added a calculations page into this document to allow students to track their calculations work for the project in an organized manner. This project is a great and fun way to wrap up a unit on solids and give students a chance to use their creativity as they demonstrate their learning. My students honestly look
