This includes the parallel passage from the first and last chapters (book ends, full circle) for Of Mice and Men. The Claim is provided, as well as an Outline based on the Claim, which is centered around Steinbeck's use of Juxtaposition to foreshadow Lennie's death.

Students will read, annotate, and provide commentary on the passage in Chapter 3 in which Silence influences tone, mood, and the gravity of the scene in which Carlson shoots Candy's dog. They will then write a one paragraph CEA based on their annotations and commentary. The passage is included, as well as a Graphic Organizer.
