This end of book test for "Night" is in table form. Students are given a key passage from the book and asked to summarize, analyze, and provide a theme for the passage. The last box can be used to compare a novel (I used The Book Thief) and labelled the box "Connection to The Book Thief". This test encourages analysis and deep thought and can be used for a writing grade as well as comprehension.
Students will read, annotate, and provide commentary on the passage in Chapter 3 in which Silence influences tone, mood, and the gravity of the scene in which Carlson shoots Candy's dog. They will then write a one paragraph CEA based on their annotations and commentary. The passage is included, as well as a Graphic Organizer.
