I use this roadmap at the beginning of Unit 6 to give my APHG students an overview of the unit. The vocabulary isn't comprehensive, but it allows us to start unpacking the standards and discussing what we already know/need to know. I also post this to google classroom so they can use the links to study as needed. They keep track of questions that come up and we refer back to this throughout the unit in order to check in on their questions, studying, vocab, and progress through the "I Can" statem

This detailed review of Unit 7 relies on this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOCelDeW19k) to guide students through the questions. Please check that the link works for you prior to purchasing the review. The video is 45 minutes long, so students usually need 60-90 minutes to watch, pause, and answer the questions independently. I do not watch this whole-group because the questions are detailed and it stresses them out to answer specific, lengthy questions while the video is still runnin

Students will work independently to research Propaganda during WWI and demonstrate their understanding via a guided slideshow. After they have considered what propaganda is, what it looked like during WWI, and what it looks like today, they will reflect on their opinion of propaganda and consider when and how it should be utilized.

Use this flexible assessment to allow your students to show their understanding of your current unit. You can adjust the group size, due date, topics, etc. to personalize it for your needs. This assignment elicits great conversations as groups justify their color coding and their reason for including each topic. I give my 11th graders one 90-minute block period for this. It's a little too much time for my fastest groups, but usually just enough for most groups. Downloads as a Microsoft doc s

Experience

I have been teaching Middle and High School Social Studies for 10 years. Teaching style

I love simulations and learning through play, and I love when reading assignments, textbook work, films, etc. reinforce an eventual experiment, simulation, or exploration. I love watching content click and come together to impact a student's thinking!

My own education history

Masters of Administration, K-12 Bachelors of Arts in Secondary Education, 7-12 Social Studies License, 7-12 English as a Foreign Language certification, K-12 International Baccalaureate Education, MYP

Additional biographical information

I live in Northern Nevada at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountains. It is a gorgeous area, with plenty of camping, hiking, and water activities nearby. In addition to exploring the region, I love reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
