Teaching the Black Death can feel abstract for students—but its impact becomes real when they must make decisions under pressure. In this interactive Black Death simulation, students take on the role of medieval states and navigate trade, religion, labor shortages, and public health choices as the Bubonic Plague spreads across Afro-Eurasian networks from 1347–1353. Each decision increases wealth or risk, forcing students to confront the same dilemmas historical societies faced. This simulation

In this highly engaging poetry mini-unit, students will explore the theme of forgiveness. They will work through works by Tupac to Brandi Carlile that will encourage students to think through what types of forgiveness can be found in life and how they personally process forgiveness. The unit will wrap with a personal final poem on a journey of their own forgiveness. I teach this mini-unit alongside my Holocaust Literature unit. My struggling writers take no hesitation with this mini-unit. They

My favorite classroom extension: The Comparative Literature Essay! Students read The Hunger Games and "The Lottery" to analyze how authors learn and take influence from each other. It's a great review of all things literature! Struggling readers stay interested in high-interest stories. In this product, you'll have graphic organizers to encourage student note-taking in gathering evidence to compare and contrast the two pieces of literature. The rubric focuses on "grows" and "glows" with set exp

This project can lead to so many meaningful writing and listening skills opportunities. I hope you and your stude

As students end their school year, invite them to reflect on who they are in this moment of life. Students get to reflect on the people in their life, their world, the things they do, and who they are. This project can be saved in an envelope and gifted to students upon graduating high school, or it can be an item students take home with them as they end the year. The mini-project can be stretched out over the last month of the school year or within one week. It can be finished in class or ass
